Why 'The American Connection'?

The town has strong links both past and present with America. Samuel Lincoln, the ancestor of Abraham Lincoln, was born in Hingham and baptised int he church in 1612. Samuel emigrated to the New World in 1637. Also in the 1630s Robert Peck (the minister of Hingham) and a group of parishioners sailed to the New World where they joined others and settled in Hingham, Massachusetts. The bronze bust of Abraham Lincoln in the church was given by the citizens of the uSA and unveiled by the American Ambassador in 1919.

The stone outside the Post Office was presented by Hingham, Mass. in 1913. The contacts continue to the present day. The village siogn depicts the connections between Hingham and the Neworld. There is a memorial plaque to the USAS 452nd Bomb Group near the War Memorial.

Proceeds will go towards a major Millenium Project to restore the church building.
