Abraham Lincoln’s Bi-centenary celebration weekend

This year Hingham celebrates the 200th anniversary of the birth on 12th February 1809 of Abraham Lincoln. To mark the occasion Hingham will be hosting events over the weekend of July 11th, and 12th.

Saturday 11th July
11.00-13.00 Quilting workshop
Parents and children can attend this workshop free of charge in St. Andrew’s Church.

13.30-17.00 American Civil War Society Re-enactment
The American Civil War Society Re-enactment will be performing military drills and parades. There is also the chance to wander replica encampements, enjoy dancing, music, a hog roast and other refreshements, and stalls selling local produce.

18.30-19.30 ‘The chaffinches’ and ‘The Orwell Blue Grass’ bands.
At Lincoln Hall you can enjoy authentic old-time and blue grass music with banjo, mandolin, fiddle and guitar. Tickets are £5.00 (£4.00 concessions) in advance from Theatre Royal Norwich, or from the Committee, tel: 01953 851 265.

Sunday 12th July
15.00-16.00 St. Andrew’s Church: Commemorative Service
This is followed by refreshments and a display by Nicky Watson’s dance group in the Lincoln Hall.

which provisionally include a display and demonstration by Gressenhall Living Museum, an encampment on the Fairland by the American Civil War re-enactment group, and a special commemoration and thanksgiving service at St. Andrews Church.

  1. I have seen this news about the anniversary celebration for several weeks with no follow up or details. With less than a month to plan it doesn’t look like I can make it. I would have liked to stop by. Oh Well!
